Ms. Janis L. Garcia, Esq., J.D., is a practicing attorney in the state of Arizona.  Attorney Garcia earned her Juris Doctorate Degree (J.D.) from Florida State University, and her Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Finance with a minor in Securities from Arizona State University.

 

Attorney Garcia was commissioned in the United States Navy upon admission to law school, and served on active duty in the United States Navy Judge Advocate Generals Corps (JAGC) throughout law school, serving in various summer internship programs in Pensacola, Florida, Meridian, Mississippi, and San Diego/Coronado, California.  She went on to serve her country for eight and a half years on active duty as an attorney in the JAG Corps as an Operation Desert Storm combat veteran. 

 

Attorney Garcia has a vast amount of professional experience in the criminal legal realm.  She has worked as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of California, and was selected as the first ever Regional Counsel to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) for the Southwest Region advising on legal matters of high importance to the national security of our nation.  

 

Following her service in the Navy, attorney Garcia went to work for the San Diego County Public Defender’s Office specializing in the major crimes unit of the Juvenile Delinquency Division working closely with child psychologists and nuero psychologists in mitigation of possible sentences of life imprisonment with no opportunity of parole.

 

Returning to her roots in finance and securities, attorney Garcia took a position at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in Washington D.C., working as a compliance attorney in the Office of Compliance, Inspections and Examinations. She later relocated back to Arizona opening her own private practice boutique law firm in Old Town Scottsdale. 

 

Attorney Garcia has always been committed to serving her country and community, and sponsored a pro bono legal services program for the Scottsdale Senior Center, and co-founded a pro bono legal services program for the homeless and veterans at Andre House with retired Judge Robert (Bob) Gottsfield.  She remains active in the Veteran’s Court Program in Maricopa County.
